Northwestern REC is an
electric distribution cooperative serving nearly 21,000 members in five
northwestern Pennsylvania counties (Crawford, Erie, Mercer, Venango, and
Warren). The first permanent rural electric cooperative organized in Pennsylvania, it was incorporated April
30, 1936, set the state's first cooperative pole August 5, 1936, and began providing
electric service May 19, 1937.
